Cole Creighton Miller Arrest
The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office, along with Ohio BCI & I, are investigating an early morning shooting incident that occurred at an apartment complex located off of McCormick Road in Green Township. The Gallia County 911 center received a call at 00:37 hours concerning a neighbor that had become agitated and confronted the caller with a gun and shot the car that belonged to the caller. Gallia county deputies were on a meth lab related incident on the south end of the county at the time of the incident and requested that dispatch contact Gallipolis Police Department to respond to the scene until Gallia deputies could arrive. Upon arrival at the scene, the Gallipolis Police Officers were fired at by the assailant, later identified as Cole Creighton Miller, age 28 of Gallia County, Ohio. Gallipolis City Police Officer, Jamie Bartels was wounded in the incident and transported to Holzer Medical Center ER and later to Cabell-Huntingon Hospital, in West Virginia. Officer Bartels received a gunshot wound to the upper torso area. The assailant was taken into custody by law enforcement at the scene. The Gallia County Prosecutor’s Office is handing criminal charges based on the BCI&I Investigation.
At this time, Miller is being held on Felonious Assault charges but those are expected to be upgraded after the prosecutor reviews the case. Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning stated that Officer Bartels “is a fine law enforcement officer and has always been a community minded person that cares about our community and has always been there when needed.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are for Jamie’s quick and full recovery” and “we will work diligently to ensure proper prosecution of the offender in this case.” Sheriff Browning also noted that 2 other Gallipolis Police officers and a Sheriff’s Deputy , as well as a State Highway Patrol Trooper were on scene at the time of the offender’s arrest and commented “on the officer’s dedication to public service in shielding our community’s citizens from harm. “
