Remembrance of Long time Gallia County Sheriff Deputy James (JIM) Crace

 

James Hamilton Crace, Sr., 90, of Vinton, passed away Oct. 14, 2009, at his residence.

  Jim was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Catlettsburg, Ky., to the late James Emmett and Mary Ellen Young Crace.

He was Deputy Sheriff for the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office with 26 years service after which he continued

as a volunteer. Jim was a World War II Veteran serving in the Army from 1943 to 1945. He was also a

member of the DAV of Cincinnati and Gallipolis VFW Post 4464, and a member of the First Baptist Church

of Gallipolis.

  Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Williams Crace, Nov. 27, 2004; and by two brothers and

two sisters.

  He is survived by his children, Jack E. (Paula) Crace of Vinton, and James H. (Jane) Crace Jr., of Racine,

Beatrice A. (Larry) Sayre of Carson City, Nev., and Wanda (Bob) Quire of Dayton; and several

grandchildren and great grandchildren.

  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at McCoy Moore Funeral Home – Gallipolis

Chapel, with Rev. Alvis Pollard officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park Military. Graveside

rites will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Service Organizations. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m.

at the McCoy Moore Funeral Home, 420 First Ave., Gallipolis, on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009.

  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Ohio Valley Christian School,

455 Third Ave., Gallipolis, OH 45631.
