Ohio Concealed Handgun License Information

Important Information:

Recently the Ohio Attorney General raised processing fees they charge Sheriffs’ Offices for criminal history record checks and firearm concealed carry licenses.

New Concealed Carry Fees
EFFECTIVE:  FRIDAY OCTOBER 16, 2009

NEW LICENSE:
$67.00 - 5 consecutive years as an Ohio resident  
$91.00 –Less than 5 consecutive years as an Ohio resident

RENEWAL LICENSE:
$50.00 – 5 consecutive years as an Ohio resident  
$74.00 – Less than 5 consecutive years as an Ohio resident

TEMPORARY EMERGENCY LICENSE:
$37.00 – Emergency/Temporary License   
$61.00 – Less than 5 consecutive years as an Ohio resident

LOST LICENSE:
$15.00 – Replacement fee for lost license

FINGERPRINT CARDS:
(Processed at the Jail for other than an Ohio Concealed Carry License)
$10.00 - EACH CARD

  Completed applications must be submitted in person at the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office located in the basement of the Gallia County Courthouse, 18 Locust St. Gallipolis, Ohio.

  An applicant must be a resident of Ohio for at least 45 days before becoming eligible to apply and must be a resident of Gallia County (or an adjoining county) for at least 30 of those 45 days. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and not a fugitive from justice. Many criminal offenses will bar an applicant from obtaining a license. For further detailed information, visit the State of Ohio Attorney General’s web site at www.ag.state.oh.us.

Applicants must at the time of a NEW or RENEWAL application:

  1. Submit a completed application form (downloadable from the Attorney General’s web site www.ag.state.oh.us.)  along with a color 2-inch by 2-inch passport type photo attached to the form. Renewal applicants may renew their permit up to 90 days prior to their permit expiration date and up to 30 days after.
  2. Submit a certificate of completion of a firearms safety courses offered by or under the auspices of the NRA or other certification as specified in ORC§2923.125. For renewals, the certificate of completion must be valid within 6 years from the expiration date on the issued CCW permit.
  3. Present a valid Ohio drivers license or Ohio ID card and the CCW permit, if applicable.
  4. Pay a fee of sixty-seven dollars ($67.00) by Cash, Check, or Money Order. Persons who have been a resident of Ohio for less than 5 years must also pay an additional federal background check fee of ninety-one dollars ($91.00).
  5. Submit to fingerprinting necessary to conduct a background check.

  The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office will inform applicants by mail, email or by telephone. Please allow 45 days after application submission to receive the permit.

  It is a felony to carry a firearm into the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office or the Gallia County Courthouse.

  If you are paying in cash you must bring the exact amount needed for the transaction.
