Deputy Harold F. Hill
December 27,
1938 - February 16, 1993
Dedicated,
caring and easy going are words used to describe Deputy Harold Franklin
Hill, by his wife Alta. Harold and Alta's life took the exact same paths
in life starting in 1970. Both went to work for the State of Ohio in
December 1970 working with the Developmentally Disabled at the Gallipolis
Developmental Center.
Harold and
Alta worked in their supervisory positions until 1983 when their positions
were done away with. Law Enforcement had always appealed to them and when
the chance arose they took it together. Both received a commission, from the
late Sheriff Jim Montgomery in 1983, and attended the Police Academy in
Nelsonville, Ohio. Upon graduating the pair became Special Deputies for the
Gallia County Sheriff's Office until 1984 when Harold took a position as a
Road Officer for the Pomeroy, Ohio Police Department and achieved the Rank
of Lieutenant and Alta was assigned Road and Dispatcher duties. In 1986
Harold and Alta made another move together taking positions with the Gallia
County Sheriff's Office. Harold worked as a Corrections Officer and then as
a Road Officer and Alta assumed the duties of dispatcher. Harold remained
with the Sheriff's Office until 1991 when he started having problems with
diabetes and ultimately suffered a heart attack. Harold was on medical leave
from the Sheriff's Office when he passed away, in 1993 at Pleasant Valley
Hospital, Point Pleasant, Wva,. of Congested Heart Failure. Sheriff Dave
Martin remembers Harold as very easy going and always a pleasure to work
with. |
