The
Gallia County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division provides for and
staffs the Jail for Gallia County and five villages.
The
Gallia County Jail was built in 1964 and was originally designed to
house approximately 31 inmates.
According
to the State Bureau of Adult Detention, the maximum number of inmates
that should be housed in the Gallia County Jail is 10.
The
Gallia County Jail average daily population for the year 2005 was 37.82
inmates. The Gallia County Jail has a continuing overcrowding problem
which is not uncommon throughout the country in many jurisdictions.
A
total of 1796 inmates were booked into the Jail in 2005. The inmates
were served approximately 42,000 meals.
The
results of the latest Jail Inspection from the State Bureau of Adult
Detention revealed the jail was in full compliance with the expected
daily operational policies and procedures. The jail; however, was found
to be inadequate in regards to facility condition.
The
Correction Division is comprised of one supervisor and 7 fulltime and 4
part-time corrections officers.
