The Major

  Major John E. Perry was appointed Major by Sheriff David L. Martin in November of 2004.  Major Perry, a Gallia County resident, has over 27 years of law enforcement experience.  Perry was employed previously for Gallia County Sheriff’s Office as an investigator from 1984-1986 under the late Sheriff James M. Montgomery.  Perry was most recently employed for the past 18 years with the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, London, Ohio, as a Special Agent Supervisor in the Major Crimes Division for two districts that encompassed both central and southeast Ohio.  Perry supervised special agents in the crime scene, special investigations, and financial crimes units for the Bureau.

 While employed at B.C.I., Perry acted as a special agent in the narcotics unit, crime scene unit, and special investigation unit.  Major Perry has been involved in numerous high profile and successfully prosecuted homicide cases and other felony investigations throughout southeast, Ohio in his career.  Perry is also trained and certified as an F.A.A. licensed commercial helicopter pilot, flying many marijuana eradication missions statewide in his career.  Perry was appointed as a supervisor in 2001 by then Ohio Attorney General and current State Auditor Betty Montgomery.

 Perry began his law enforcement career in 1977 as a deputy sheriff with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, followed by a stint as Police Chief in Mason, also in West Virginia.  Major Perry is also an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, serving in both Germany and Ft. Lewis, Washington.

 Major Perry is the son of Ray and Betty Perry of the Addison community, and is the father of two children, Jason and Sarah both of Gallipolis.  Perry, who makes his home in the Patriot area, is married to Terri Lynn (Johnson) Perry, a registered nurse.  Perry attends church at the Nazarene Church, Gallipolis.

 Major Perry will be in charge of the road patrol, corrections and investigation divisions as well as grant applications within the Sheriff’s Office.
