Meet the Sheriff

 

 

Gallia County Sheriff - David L. Martin

  Sheriff  Martin was born in Gallia County, Ohio on Aug. 25, 1955 and raised on a livestock and tobacco farm with his family. He attended and graduated from Hannan Trace High School. After graduation he started an ran his own trucking company. In the early 1980's he expanded his business with his parents to include retail construction supplies and he operated this business until 1993 when he decided to dedicate himself fulltime to law enforcement. Sheriff Martin Started his career in law enforcement in 1988 as a corrections officer with the Gallia County Sheriff's Office and ultimately working his way up thru the ranks as Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant and then being elected to the position of Sheriff in 2000. He took over as Gallia County Sheriff Jan. 1, 2001.

    The Sheriff has taken numerous hour of advance training since attending the Ohio Basic Peace Officers Academy and continues to train as his schedule will allow him. He has been married for 28 years and has 3 children and 5 grandchildren. He enjoys his off time by boating on the Ohio and Kanawha rivers and flying his Cessna 150 Airplane since obtaining his Fixed Wing Pilots License. The Sheriff currently has a staff of 40 and maintains control over the counties 26 bed jail facility.
