Sheriff Joe Browning was elected Gallia County Sheriff in November of 2008.
Sheriff Browning has been with the Gallia County Sheriff's Office since
1988. He has served in a variety of assignments including: corrections
officer, patrol deputy, patrol shift supervisor, Swat team commander,
academy commander and Vinton village contract deputy / liaison officer, and
Patrol division supervisor. Sheriff Browning has held the ranks of
Corrections Officer, Deputy, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain. Sheriff
Browning is a certified police and corrections training instructor.
Sheriff Browning is active in many community programs including the Gallia
County outreach center, South East Ohio NAMI board, He also serves on
various law enforcement boards and committees, Buckeye State Sheriff's
Association including The newly Elected Sheriff’s Committee, Towing
Committee, and the Buckeye Hills Career Center Law Enforcement Advisory
Board and many more.
Sheriff Browning brings with him more than 21 years of law enforcement
experience gathered right here
in
Gallia county. Sheriff Browning was recently (Nov. 18, 2009) presented with
the BSSA Certified
Management of Law Enforcement Award at the BSSA annual convention in Lima
Ohio. The Sheriff
strives to make his office the most efficient and productive law enforcement
agency possible while
maintaining
strong community commitments and emphasizing fiscal responsibility.

The
Sheriff lives in Springfield Twp. With his wife Dawn and children.
