News Release
Gallipolis – March 8, 2007
Gallia County Sheriff David L. Martin wishes
to announce that the Sheriff’s Office has recently been informed by the
Governor’s Office of Highway Safety that the Gallia County Sheriff’s
Office finished in the top 24 law enforcement agencies across the State of
Ohio for their efforts last year as partners from around Ohio who have gone
above and beyond in their efforts to increase restraint usage and decrease
impaired driving during the 2006 Click it or Ticket/What’s Holding You Back?
and Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest statewide campaigns.
According to Captain John Perry, Chief
Deputy at the Sheriff’s Office, it is because of this recognition, the
Sheriff’s Office was given free a brand new radar unit by the Office of
Highway Safety valued at approximately $1200.00, which was placed into
service immediately and will be used primarily in the Village of Vinton for
speed enforcement.
Additionally, Captain Perry states that he
and Sheriff Martin will travel to Columbus on March 29th, 2007
and gather with hundreds of other law enforcement officers from around the
State at Cooper Stadium to bring attention to the need of increasing
restraint usage around Ohio. This year (2007) has been named "Year of the
Belt" and law enforcement safety partners will attempt to increase restraint
usage to 85% across the State this year.
At the March 29th meeting in Columbus, the
Gallia County Sheriff’s Office and the 23 other law enforcement agencies
that finished in the top 24 will be getting a set of keys and will be given
a chance to start two new Ford Crown Victoria police package automobiles. If
the key starts either of the two vehicles, the vehicle will be awarded at no
cost to the agency whose key fits the vehicle(s).
Captain Perry states the Sheriff’s Office
received this recognition by documenting their efforts in the form of a
portfolio which was submitted to the Office of Highway Safety. Captain Perry
and Sheriff Martin wishes to thank the Gallipolis Tribune and Radio Stations
WBYG and WYVK for their public service ads, Detective Chris Gill of the
Sheriff’s Office who was assigned to construct the portfolio, as well as
road patrol deputies that made this effort possible.
